Instructor: Corey Follett - The Quilted Stash
Instructor Bio: Corey Follett was born and raised in rural Newfoundland and currently resides in St. John's. He works full time as a GED teacher and jokes that he works fuller time as a quilter and designer. His first quilt was hand sewn with the help of a niece, under the watchful eye of an older sister, when he was an adolescent. As a mostly self-taught quilter, twenty years later he returned to the craft equipped with a domestic sewing machine and a few lessons on how to use it from a partner and his partner's grandma. In 2016, he started exploring quilting through improvisation and employing modern design elements to traditional blocks and motifs. In 2018, Corey showed his work at The Newfoundland and Labrador Craft Council Gallery in a solo exhibition. Over the last few years he has had work featured in Home and Cabin Magazine, the Canadian Quilter Magazine (Summer 2019), has had quilts displayed at Rocket Bakery and The Fabric Merchant in downtown St. John's, and has been the featured craftsperson in CBCNL's What are You At? His original piece, "Codthedral", was acquired by the Provincial Art Bank in 2019. Corey was also one of four original owners of St. John's newest and largest quilt store, East Coast Quilt Co. He founded the St. John's Modern Quilt Guild, was invited to teach at Quilt Canada in Edmonton in 2020 (but Covid-19 got in the way of that), and most recently co-authored a book, The Quilted Stash: A Dozen Newfoundland and Labrador Inspired Projects, published by Boulder Books.
